KB, MB, GB and TB are powers of 1,000, KiB, MiB, GiB and TiB powers of 1,024. Drives are sold in decimal units, Windows counts in binary ones but labels them GB, which is why a 1 TB drive shows as 931 GB. A megabit (Mb) is 1/8 of a megabyte (MB), internet speeds are in bits.

How to convert data sizes
- Type a size with its unit, e.g. 500 MB, 1.5 GiB or 100 Mb.
- See it in bits, bytes, the decimal units (KB, MB, GB, TB) and the binary ones (KiB, MiB, GiB, TiB) at once.

Questions
Why does my 1 TB drive show 931 GB?
Drives are sold in decimal units (1 TB = 1,000,000,000,000 bytes), while Windows counts in binary ones (powers of 1,024) but calls them GB: 1 TB is 931 GiB.
What's the difference between MB and MiB?
A megabyte (MB) is 1,000,000 bytes; a mebibyte (MiB) is 1,048,576 bytes.
Is Mb the same as MB?
No: Mb is a megabit, MB a megabyte, eight times larger. Internet speeds are given in megabits a second.
Is it accurate?
Yes, the units are converted exactly.
