In short
- The files and text you use with the tools are processed by your browser, on your device. They aren't uploaded to us or to anyone else.
- There's no account, and we don't use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies.
- A few things are remembered by your browser for your convenience (your favorite tools, the last currencies you converted). They stay on your device.
- A few tools ask public services for what they need (exchange rates, YouTube thumbnails); your files are never sent with those requests.
Who we are
Uber Tools (ubertools.app) is operated by Uber Tools ("we", "us").
Your files and text
Every tool works inside your browser. When you convert, compress, edit or read a file, or type text into a tool, the work is done on your own computer or phone, by your browser. The files and text aren't sent to our servers or to anyone else, so we never see them and can't keep them.
What a tool makes is held in the page until you download it or leave, and is gone when you close the page. Your original files are never changed.
What your browser keeps
We don't use cookies. Some tools ask your browser to remember a few things in its local storage, which stays on your device and is never sent to us:
- Your favorite tools, the stars in the menu and on the home page (stored as uberTools.favoriteToolURLs).
- The two currencies you last converted, on the Currency Converter (uberTools.currencyConverter.pair).
- The latest exchange rates, so the Currency Converter works at once on your next visit (uberTools.exchangeRates.latest).
You can remove them at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser's settings. Your browser also keeps copies of the site's files (its cache) so pages load faster; that's your browser's own doing and holds nothing about you.
Camera, microphone and screen
The QR Code Scanner uses your camera, the Voice Recorder your microphone, and the Screen Recorder your screen and, if you choose, your microphone. They do so only when you start them, after your browser asks for your permission, and stop when you stop them or leave the page. What they see or hear is processed in your browser and is never sent anywhere; recordings are kept in the page until you save them.
Services some tools ask
A few tools need information from elsewhere. When you use them, your browser asks these services directly, and, as with any request on the internet, they receive your IP address and your browser's usual information:
- The Currency Converter fetches the European Central Bank's reference rates from the Frankfurter API (api.frankfurter.dev): the currencies and dates asked for, never the amount you type.
- The YouTube Thumbnail Downloader fetches the thumbnails of the videos you enter from YouTube's image server (i.ytimg.com) and their titles from YouTube (youtube.com). Google's privacy policy applies to those requests.
- Text to Speech uses the voices of your browser and system. Most speak on your device; voices your browser marks as online send the text to your browser's maker (such as Google, Microsoft or Apple) to be spoken.
- Image to Text, HEIC to JPG and the PDF, audio and video tools download what they need (text recognition models, decoders) from this site, not from others.
The site's own fonts and icons are served by this site too; it loads nothing from other companies' servers when you open it.
Server logs
When you open a page, the servers that deliver the site (our hosting provider and, if used, a content delivery network) may record standard technical information: your IP address, your browser, the page asked for and the time. It's used only to run and protect the site, and kept for a limited time. These logs never include your files or what you type into the tools.
Analytics, advertising and selling data
We don't use analytics or advertising services, we don't track you across sites, and we don't sell or share personal information.
Children
The site isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone, children included.
Your rights
As the tools don't send us your files or what you type, we hold no personal information about you beyond the server logs above. Depending on where you live (for example in Canada, the European Union, the United Kingdom or California), you may have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, or to object to its use.
Changes to this policy
If the site starts to handle data differently, for example a new tool that needs an online service, we'll update this policy and the date at its top before it does.
