How to count words in a text
- Type or paste your text.
- See its words, characters (with and without spaces), sentences, paragraphs and lines as you type.
- Set a goal of words to see how far you are from it.
- Check the words you use most, with or without the common ones.
Questions
How long does my text take to read?
The reading time is worked out at 238 words a minute, an adult's average, and the speaking time at 150 words a minute, for a speech or a video.
Does it count Chinese or Japanese?
Yes, words and characters are found by your browser's language rules, so languages without spaces between words are counted where the browser knows them.
Is an emoji one character?
Yes, characters are counted as people see them, so an emoji or an accented letter counts once.
Is my text saved or sent anywhere?
No, it's counted by your browser as you type.
