How to calculate a discount or VAT
- For a sale price, type the original price and the discount, as a percentage or an amount off.
- Add an extra discount or sales tax if there is one, and read the price to pay and your saving.
- For VAT or sales tax, type an amount and the tax rate.
- Add the tax to a net amount, or take it out of a gross one.
Questions
Is 20% off plus an extra 10% the same as 30% off?
No: the extra 10% is taken off the already discounted price, so it comes to 28% off. The total discount is shown.
How do I remove VAT from a price?
Choose to take the tax out of the gross amount: at 20% VAT, a price of 120 is 100 plus 20 of tax, not 120 minus 24.
Does it work for sales tax in the US?
Yes, sales tax is worked out the same way; add it on top of the price.
